The dentist in Ouarzazate was Dr Meryeme Tithessen who had trained in Rabat. She spoke excellent English and told Tony he had an infection and needed antibiotics. If the medication wasn’t effective then Tony would need root canal treatment. The dentist prescribed antibiotics as well as two types of codeine based painkillers. She charged £17 for an X-ray and £8 for her time (say, half an hour). We collected the medicines from the adjacent pharmacy – it cost £24 for the three items. Some days later Tony announced that he was pain-free and sent a message to Dr Maryeme telling her that he needed no further treatment. She replied saying she was delighted he felt better and reminded him to continue taking the tablets – and if there was anything else he needed she would be pleased to help.
We spent nearly a week in Ouarzazate. The camp site was full of Europeans but we didn’t see any British. The site seemed to empty and refill daily; most visitors stayed for just a day or two before moving on.
PS We were experiencing a problem with our inverters which was affecting the electrical supply to our truck. We made the decision to cut short our trip and return to the UK
