Arcos de la Frontera

Arcos de la Frontera on hill above reservoir
Lunch by the lake

The town of Arcos de la Frontera stood on hills overlooking a reservoir formed by the river Guadalete as it made its way to the sea at the Bay of Cádiz.  On the shores of the lake stood a hotel that proved to be an excellent place for lunch.

We stayed at a camp site two hundred metres away from the reservoir.  The site was a resort offering “glamping” tents and teepees.  On the Saturday night they had live entertainment until midnight.  We were always amazed how much noise the Spanish made when they were partying.  Hour upon hour the band played Hispanic music (“Guantanamera“ “Eviva España”and the like).  The cacophony included the constant barking of dogs and the yapping of little dogs.  It was too to much for us old folk and we retired into the truck, closed our windows, switched on the air conditioning and plugged in our headphones!  Then it was beautifully quiet.

Tony leant on this bus shelter and it fell over

The October weather had turned cooler and there had been several rain showers throughout the day.  One night the wind blew so strongly that we felt our truck rocking.  The following morning we woke to find fallen tree branches all around us.  Even the bus shelter by the lake had blown over.

Storm damage – there were people camping on this spot a few hours earlier
