We didn’t rush our journey towards Italy. It took us eight days to travel the 1,400 miles from Batumi (Georgia) to Igoumenitsa (Greece). We chose not to drive more than five hours each day and we usually stopped overnight at motorway parking areas used by HGV drivers. Traffic on the roads was light and we steadily covered the miles. Sometimes dense fog hung in the mountain valleys and frequent bursts of heavy rain meant we couldn’t always appreciate the mountain scenery.
The minute we crossed the border from Turkey to Greece, our Starlink WiFi connection sprang into life. We had purchased Turkish SIMs but we were unable to recharge on line and they were a poor substitute for Mr Musk’s product. We relied on the internet far more than we realised – it was our sixth sense and being in contact with the outside world was so important to us. We could again listen to the radio, read the newspaper, chat to friends and family, pay our bills, write blogs, send birthday cards and even watch TV . . .
As we approached Igoumenitsa the weather became very unpleasant with wind and constant driving rain. It was hard to think the last time we were there we were enjoying a swim in the Ionian Sea.

Hello Lin and Paul – so pleased someone is reading this blog!
. . . . . . and Warren, of course. . . .
