Camping La Palmeraie, just south of Agadir, was run by a French family and was one of Morocco’s best-kept camp sites. The gardens were beautifully laid out with a restaurant overlooking the swimming pool. We stayed there several days over the New Year, the weather was warm and sunny and we were able to catch up with a backlog of laundry. In the evenings we walked to the restaurant for an early supper (salad and a main course with a bottle of wine cost under £30). For New Year’s Eve they offered a special celebration dinner which we were about to sign up for when we realised food wasn’t served until 9 pm – too late for us old fogies!
