The Sahara

Sunrise at Hassilabied
Sunlight breaking over the Sahara dunes

We stayed a few days at a hotel camp site next to the dunes at a village called Hassilabied.  Tourists could take the camel tours to the highest dune to watch the sunrise or sunset.  We were content to watch from the warmth of our truck.  The temperature was min 6°, max 21°.  The hotel provided an excellent dinner of salad, chicken tagine (other choices were available), fresh pomegranate desert, bread and a bottle of water.  Our stay cost us a little over £20 per day including our dinners.

Most of the Sahara was gravel plains, sand dunes were only 25% of the landscape.
