The Gorges of Ziz

The Ziz river

We drove south along the Ziz river through the Gorges of Ziz.  They had constructed a dam to the south to create a reservoir.  We could see the water level was low and knew the whole area was suffering from a chronic shortage of water.  We took a walk along the river bed, there were a few puddles but the river wasn’t flowing.

Camping Jurassique, Gorges de Ziz

As we drove out of the campsite the dashboard on our truck displayed a large STOP sign – the air brake pressure relief valve had stopped working, meaning no air pressure to supply the brakes.  They called an engineer from the nearby town but he didn’t really understand our system.  We paid him £25 to go away and, after an hour, or so the problem seemed to clear and we drove on, fingers crossed.

Live sheep in transit

We regularly saw animals being transported by road, Moroccan people didn’t share our sensitivity about animal welfare.  We spotted a roof rack on a van containing two or three sheep covered with heavy netting.  We assumed they were dead until we saw a head move.
