We stayed a few days in Ouarzazate, a modern city famous for its film studios where they made, among others, “Game of Thrones” and “Lawrence of Arabia”. The studios were open for public tours, but we resisted.
When we left Ouarzazate we turned north-west towards Marrakech. Our route took us through the Atlas Mountains via the Tizi N’Tichka Pass. We had driven this route a few times over the years but still felt a little apprehensive about the hairpin bends on narrow roads with a huge drop on one side.

Happily, we found that the road had been upgraded and the carriageway was now wide enough for two vehicles to pass safely. The journey took us about four hours. Along the way there was evidence of rock falls, one fall had totally blocked the route. Bulldozers would clear the blockage or dig a new route around, so no problem – unless you were unfortunate enough be driving by just as the rock fell. You can’t blame me for wondering if ever they ever uncovered a buried vehicle whilst clearing a rock fall. Anyway, we made it without mishap.
