Alexandroupoli

Alexandroupolis – the blue dot then the plan was to head east towards Georgia

We spent a few more days by the Aegean Sea at Andexandroupolis where there was a municipal camp site which was spacious, clean and well kept.  The site was on the beach and Tony ventured into the sea for a swim; it was then I realised I had forgotten to pack my swimmers.

There was a family of cats living on the site as well as a couple of dogs.  None of the animals were strays, they were all fairly tame and looked well nourished.   We loved watching the young cats playing on our mat. They would even climbed the ladder and try to get through the flyscreen into the truck.  When we were sitting out in the sun the dogs would often setttle down for a snooze at our feet.

Trying to break in through our flyscreen

One afternoon the young cats were milling around our van when the two dogs appeared and attacked the smallest cat.   They tossed the little animal in the air and there was a terrible squealing noise before it abruptly fell silent.  The little cat didn’t stand a chance.

A young Turkish couple tried to help and eventually managed to shoo the dogs away and scooped the little body up in a towel but there was nothing they could do for it.  The surviving cats were soon back playing on our mat.
