Too much excitement today! This morning we noticed the Guardia Civil patrolling the site and when we walked down to the sea we saw that a 10 metre RIB had been driven ashore on the beach just by the campsite. The RIB had four x 250hp outboards, probably carrying 600 gallons of petrol – with those engines it would use at least 100 gallons per hour – most likely it was connected with drug smuggling. We watched with interest as a breakdown truck arrived and tried to lift the RIB, first one way, then the other in order to tow it off the premises. We would have thought it would have been easier to re float the boat and tow it to the nearby Marina. We watched for a while, then we went to lunch.
Upon our return several hours later nothing seemed to have progressed. Finally they brought in a tractor to support the RIB at the bow and the trio slowly progressed through the campsite with the tractor bringing up the rear. The weight of the boat meant the front wheels of the breakdown truck were off the ground. We were finally relieved to see the truck, dangling RIB and tractor leave the campsite through the front gates to be collected buy a low loader.
We stayed at La Bella Vista for three nights, hoping that a replacement bicycle wheel would turn up from the UK Kalkhoff Dealer. It had been promised for Thursday and now it was Monday and still no sign. We had to leave the site by 3pm so just before we departed I went up to Reception to pay the bill and there was Tony’s parcel, just arrived in the nick of time. Phew!
