We disembarked in Stockholm at 10 am on a beautiful autumn morning. We were relieved we only had one night on board as our cabin was down in the bowels of the vessel, small and slightly claustrophobic – resplendent with pink sanitary ware. On the bright side we had a superb dinner in one of the three restaurants and the next morning we were able to watch the sun come up over Stockholm whilst enjoying a delicious on board breakfast.

We stayed a few days at Nynäshamn, a pretty harbour town thirty miles along the coast from Stockholm. We walked into town and found a busy little restaurant in the harbour where you ordered and paid for your food at the bar before you sat down. Your hot meal was brought to the table and you helped yourself to the excellent salad bar. We had a beer with our meal and the total cost was just £32.

Next leg of our journey was 18 hours by ferry from Sweden to Gdańsk, Poland.
