We chose to return to Zagora and spend a few days at Himi’s. We liked it there and the irrepressible Himi welcomed us with a big hug.

Himi was very excited as he was organising a michwi (sounds like meesh-wee) and means a barbecue. A wood fire was lit inside a large clay oven and, after some hours, when the fire had died down, the embers were removed. Then a whole lamb was placed in the oven and the apertures top and bottom were sealed up with clay and left for several hours. We had a tasty leg of lamb for dinner that night, the meat was dark and very tender.

We were due to hook up with friends, Charles and Caro who were travelling down from Tanger Med. As we were both constantly on the move it was difficult to plan where we should meet up so we decided to stay in Zagora and wait for them to come to us so we could spend a day or two together. They eventually got to Zagora hours later than planned as they had taken the wrong route and then been stopped by the police twice for speeding (fined once – £24).

When we left Zagora it was time to head north en route for Casablanca.
