We spent four lovely days at Borj Biramane, the weather front passed without affecting us too much and then we were able to catch up with laundry duties. The combination of sun and wind dried our clothes with the efficiency of a tumble drier.
Visitors to the site came and went, some stopping for just one night; occasionally we were the only guests having dinner in the restaurant. A group of trail bikers turned up one day. They were on a tour and their luggage was dropped off in the afternoon. About 6.30 pm a group of dusty, weary bikers appeared – urgently needing a beer and phone charging facilities! They were gone by 9 am the following day, poor things.
When we were the only guests on a site we felt like Billy No Mates but it was preferable to a site where everyone was crammed together. We always seemed to attract the bright spark who parked next to us with their door facing our door – destroying everyone’s privacy. The other parking faux pas was when we were alone in a huge parking area and then another vehicle would choose to park right next to us. So annoying.
The cost of our stay at Borj Biramane was £8 per night for the pitch, with electricity. Alcohol was relatively expensive in Morocco, a bottle of Moroccan vin ordinaire was £16, a small can of beer was £2.80. Our evening meals cost £10 a head for a lovely salad (or soup) followed by a tagine with fresh bread and bottled water. There wasn’t a great deal of choice but the food was excellent, freshly cooked and home made. The alcohol almost doubled our restaurant bill!
